Momentum

Momentum is a free New Zealand motorsport results database and analytics site covering 77 years of NZ circuit racing, 1949 to the present. It's a personal project — I built it and run it.

2,000+race meetings
31,000+sessions
479,000+race results
~4 millionindividual laps
14,600+drivers
24circuits & configurations

The data

Results come from official electronic timing for the modern era, digitised historic timing sheets for everything earlier. The race meeting results archive runs from championship rounds down to club days, and every session has historical weather attached to it.

Because the underlying laps are all there — nearly four million of them — Momentum can derive things the printed timing sheets never recorded: per-lap safety-car and pit-stop detection worked out from lap times, championship points tables, and New Zealand race track lap records broken down per track and per class across all the racing classes and categories that have run here.

Driver ratings

Every driver in the database gets a profile with full career history, lap records and head-to-head comparisons — there are driver profiles for more than 14,600 New Zealand racing drivers. On top of that sits an ELO skill rating, computed by replaying every race since 1949 in chronological order, so the driver ELO ratings leaderboard is a single ranking that spans generations of drivers who never shared a grid.

The same career data powers the motorsport class pathways, which show how drivers actually progress between categories — which classes feed which, and where careers go next.

For drivers

If you've raced on a circuit in New Zealand, you're probably already in there. Drivers can create a free account to claim their record, upload data-logger telemetry (AiM, RaceChrono, MoTeC), link their YouTube race videos to the sessions they filmed, and manage their car garage.
